I’m telling you that so you will know whom to blame if you come across something you don’t like, or that is wrong…or that you think is wrong. I like to argue, but only if I think that you’re wrong. Hopefully there won’t be much of that here, since most of what either I or my readers say will be agreeable to everyone. But I’m sure there will be an odd moment here or there…

My claim to fame for writing a blog like this about applied consciousness and ESP, especially one particular form of ESP most commonly called “remote viewing” (but I also like the term “remote perception” — hence the rather longish name of the blog) is that for seven years (1983-1990) I was a remote viewer in the US military’s Star Gate psychic espionage program. I learned remote viewing from its creators, Mr. Ingo Swann and Dr. Harold E. “Hal” Puthoff; I did remote viewing (against hundreds of different intelligence targets in the Soviet Union, China, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and many other places); I taught remote viewing (first to military intelligence personnel and later, since the beginning of 1997, to everyday citizens of the US and other countries around the world); I wrote the government’s manual for a particular kind of remote viewing, called controlled remote viewing (CRV).

Paul H Smith during Desert StormBesides being a remote viewer, during my 20 years in the Army I was an Arabic linguist, a signals intelligence and electronic warfare operator, and both a tactical and a strategic intelligence officer.  I was stationed in various parts of the United States and in Germany, and was deployed to the Middle East for Desert Storm, ending my career at the Military District of Washington as chief of its Intelligence and Security division. (And yes, I’ve seen the secret entrance through which Marilyn Monroe came into the White House to “visit” John F. Kennedy.)

I have earned a bachelors degree from Brigham Young University and a masters degree from the National Defense University (both in Middle Eastern Studies), and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin, writing on consciousness, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science.

I am president and chief instructor for Remote Viewing Instructional Services, Inc., which has a full curriculum of live-instruction controlled remote viewing training courses. It is headquartered in Cedar City, Utah, in the heart of Utah’s stunning and inspirational Red Rock country. And am a founding director and president of the non-profit International Remote Viewing Association.

    Yes. Thanks for putting the effort into this Paul. Seems like it’s from the heart.

    Let me start with ERV. I studied originally under David Morehouse in 2000. He taught an advanced course for CRV graduates where music and dance played an early morning role in patterning the body and mind to move through the ether. Could you discuss your understanding of Extended Remote Viewing protocols and offer your opinion of morning stretch/dance exercises to optimize for flight? Mahalos wW
    PS. Those morning moves really helped me relax during navigation on my early ERV missions.

    • Hi, Wayne–thanks for your interest! Dance and music were not part of ERV at Ft. Meade (now I won’t be able to ever shake the image of Joe McMoneagle in a pink tutu pirouetting around the ops building!) 🙂 For the first few years that I was there, though, Skip Atwater would plug us into a Focus 10 or Focus 12 Hemisync tape to get us “in the mood,” so to speak. That’s what got me in the habit of having a cool down period before doing any kind of viewing (though I traded Bob Monroe’s sonorous tones for AC/DC and Twisted Sister on my Walkman). I don’t see any harm in dance and music as a similar cool down ritual, and if it works for you, that’s great!

  3. According to her family and friends she died in 2002, yet you place her death in 2001 with a connection to another event in that year. It seems a shame that you may have the date wrong as she seemed a lovely lady in her videos

    Thanks for all your dedication! I’ve been teaching CRV From your final documents now for 10 years, and wanted to share with you something that even Ingo may have missed at some point. To date, no one has said anything about the link between the aesthetic impact statement in Stage 2 and the drawing process in Stage 3. A/I sets the stage for visual relationships by addressing the heart chakra, which is adept at providing imaging to the mind’s eye. When you feel that emotion and allow your heart chakra to visualize it, that is when the image comes through. It took me a long time to look back on what one of my mystical mentors told me, but when I focused the blue light of that chakra forward of me, I began to have accurate future visions.
    This seems to be lost to remote viewing process, but I have taught it for four years, and made note of it when I get to A/I and use it to see Stage 3 more clearly. I hope this is of help. Ironically, Stage 3 immediately follows instruction to feel the feeling you get for A/I.
